Eight WKU freshman named to ‘unofficial’ Sun Belt football all-frosh squad

8 05 2010

This is probably a bit late to pass along, but better that than never I’d say.

Most all of the Sun Belt school beat writers (myself included) around the league have gotten together and put together an all-freshman squad for the 2009 season– something the league itself doesn’t actually put out.

In any event, here’s how it shook down:

RB

Shawn Southward, Troy: Had 110 carries for 602 yards and 12 TDs for league champions and was Sun Belt Freshman of the Year.

Yobes Walker, ULL: Was second on team in rushing with 412 yards, 3.6 yards per carry and 2 TDs in 10 games.

WR

Darius Carey, UNT: Was second on team with 57 catches for 509 yards and 4 TDs and had 670 all-purpose yards.

TE

OL

Jaron Odom, ULL: Key reserve lineman on team that allowed only 16 sacks, making one start and playing in all 12 games.
