Matt Ridings injury status

21 05 2010

WKU senior ace Matt Ridings was forced to leave Thursday’s game against Middle Tennessee in the top of the fifth inning with an injury to his right elbow.

I spoke with Ridings following the game, he explained the injury as ‘a feeling he’d never felt before’ in the aforementioned elbow. After the injury, Ridings attempted to toss a few more warmup pitches before eventually deciding with coach Chris Finwood that he could no longer pitch.

Both Finwood and Ridings seemed cautiously optimistic last night that the injury wouldn’t be anything completely disastrous. Finwood said that there was no popping sound of any kind in the elbow, which seems to be a positive sign, and had hopes that the injury was just some inflammation in the elbow.

In any event, Ridings will get looked at today by the WKU training staff today – and I’ll hope to have some sort of update following tonight’s game on Ridings’ status for the remainder of the season.
