WKU baseball update

23 05 2010

Despite wrapping up a regular season-ending series victory with a 15-5 win over Middle Tennessee on Saturday, Western Kentucky will still enter next week’s Sun Belt Tournament as the No. 8 seed.

Meaning that the Hilltoppers will have to face No. 1 Florida Atlantic – who swept WKU in the regular season – in game one of the double-elimination tournament that is set to begin on Wednesday. Game times for the tournament should be announced on Sunday.

In addition, WKU coach Chris Finwood said tonight that the status of Hilltopper senior ace Matt Ridings is still up in the air next week.

Ridings left Friday’s start against the Blue Raiders in the fourth inning after injuring his right elbow.

WKU expects to get an MRI result for Ridings elbow on Monday, and depending on that and how Ridings is feeling, the team will make a decision on his availability at some point next week.
