WKU men’s basketball notes

28 06 2010

Western Kentucky men’s basketball coach Ken McDonald said today that he’s very close to finalizing his coaching staff for the 2010-11 season.

The position left vacant when it was announced in early May that former assistant David Boyden would not be returning for next season.

McDonald said that they have yet to officially offer the position to anyone, but that he hopes to have the hire finalized within a week’s time.

“We are very close to announcing, it will probably be in the next seven days, to finishing out our staff,” he said.

In other news, when asked whether or not the current staff was finished with its recruiting for the 2010-11 season – McDonald replied once again that , “we’re never done recruiting.”

“No, we’re not done recruiting,” McDonald said. “We’re never done.

“I think within the next week there’s going to be a lot of news here in Topper Town.”

It’s been reported recently by The Birmingham News in Alabama that former Crimson Tide forward Demetrius Jemison was considering WKU, along with a handful of other schools (including UCLA, Western Michigan, Manhattan and Georgia State).

The 6-8 Jemison opted to leave Alabama this past May and will have one season of eligibility remaining. Wherever he winds up, Jemison may be able to play right away next season –  if he’s able to enroll in a graduate school program not offered at Alabama (and get it cleared by Alabama).

Jemison redshirted at Alabama last season while recovering from an Achilles injury. A source close to the situation informed the Daily News today that Jemison could possibly make his decision this week.

And don’t forget about Buffalo area big man Jerome Hunter. As we reported earlier this month here on the blog, Hunter – a 6-11 former Robert Morris commit out of Queen City Prep in North Carolina – is considering WKU along with several other schools as a possible destination next season.
