WKU football update

3 08 2010

Western Kentucky coach Willie Taggart told the Daily News this afternoon that all but two members of his incoming class for the 2010 season have been cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse and will be ready to play once fall camp opens on Monday.

The two players that have not qualified are prep school defensive back Cam Thomas and junior college defensive tackle David Angilau.

Taggart said Angilau has been released from his scholarship and won’t be part of the team, while Thomas will remain on campus with hopes of eventually meeting the qualification standards.

Thomas (6-2, 180) was a Rivals.com three-star prospect out of Milford Academy in New Berlin, N.Y. Angilau (6-2, 295) was a two-star Rivals.com prospect out of the City College of San Francisco.

All players officially report for fall camp on Sunday, while practice is set to begin Monday evening.

Camp should be interesting especially with the upcoming 2010 freshmen getting a chance to compete for positions. The CBs should get a real shot as in playing this year. I also feel the QB position should be interesting. Taggart even said during his media day interview that this is the position battle that is very interesting going into camp and mentioned Doughty a few times. I have heard that Doughty will not be redshirting and is #2 on the QB dept chart going into camp. What I have heard is that he has had a awesome summer and has really impressed the coaches and players. Something to watch… Keep us updated while camp is going on please. Thanks and you do a wonderful job…. Go Tops..
