Per WKU release:

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Western Kentucky University announced Thursday the hiring of Andrew Theokas as the Director of Operations for the men’s basketball team.

Theokas comes to WKU after spending the 2009-10 season as the head boys basketball coach at Marlboro High School in Marlboro, N.J. Prior to that, Theokas spent 11 years as an assistant on various Division I men’s basketball coaching staffs.

Theokas was named the 2009-10 All-Shore Media Coach of the Year after leading the Marlboro Mustangs to the state sectional semifinals for the first time since the 1970s in 2009-10. Marlboro High School also reached the Round of 16 in the Shore Conference Tournament and won the Huskie Holiday Classic under Theokas’ direction.

Before taking the reins at Marlboro High School, Theokas spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Columbia University. While at Columbia, Theokas was in charge of scheduling and working with the Lion big men. Theokas was the top assistant on head coach Joe Jonas’ staff in 2007-08 and 2008-09.

Theokas joined the Columbia coaching staff in 2005 after spending four years as an assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts, where he was responsible for recruiting and working with post players. Under his tutelage, Rashaun Freeman was the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year in 2004 and a first-team All-Atlantic 10 performer as a sophomore in 2004-05.

Prior to his four years at Massachusetts, Theokas spent the 2000-01 season as an administrative assistant for the men’s basketball team at Villanova University. He came to Villanova from Rider University, where he was an assistant coach for two seasons from 1998-2000.

Before Rider, Theokas was the head coach at Ocean County College in Toms River, N.J. Ocean County enjoyed a 10-game improvement from his first to second seasons, setting the foundation for a program which went on to win 42 games over a two-year span, including a National Junior College Athletic Association Region 19 championship.

Theokas is the son of Charles Theokas, who was the former athletics director at Temple University, a former Atlantic 10 Conference commissioner and longtime New York Nets executive.

A 1992 graduate of William and Mary, Theokas and his wife, Lori, have three children – Olivia, Sophia and Charlie.
