First it was five, now make it six.

George Rogers Clark High School senior forward Vinny Zollo confirmed to the Daily News via text message this morning that he indeed has given his commitment to Western Kentucky.

Zollo, a Rivals.com three-star prospect,  becomes Ken McDonald’s sixth commitment for the 2011-12 season, joining Rivals.com four-star point guard Cezar Guerrero, three-star guard Derrick Gordon, three-star forward Nigel Snipes, three-star forward George Fant and three-star center Deng Leek.

The 6-9, 240-pound Zollo made his official visit to WKU during this past weekend’s Hilltopper Hysteria event – and was apparently sold from there.

“He was just first and foremost had a good relationship with the coaching staff, and then the facilities and their commitment to winning and the overall vibe of the program sold him,” GRC coach Scott Humphrey said this morning. “I can’t speak for him directly, but I think (WKU’s current class) played a part in it all and it shows where they’re heading.

“He felt really comfortable about the whole situation – he loved Bowling Green, he loved Western and it was a place where he felt really comfortable.”

Zollo chooses WKU over offers from DePaul, Marshall, Miami (Ohio), Pacific, St. Joe’s, Tulane and Wright State, according to InsideHilltopperSports.com.

The commitment ends a long process for Zollo, who was originally a Kentucky commitment during the Billy Gillispie era.

Humphrey said that by making his decision early, there’s no doubt a sense of relief being felt by Zollo at this point.

“You could see it on his face this morning,” Humphrey said. “This is a kid that’s been involved in this process for four years now – he’s seen the good, the bad and the ugly.

“It’s only going to make him a better person in the long run.”
