WKU football news and notes

8 12 2010

Heck of a day to be stuck in a car traveling, eh?

I just arrived to Bowling Green, Ohio for tonight’s WKU-BGSU basketball tilt – so my apologies for being off on this topic all day.

As most of you already know, there are several published reports – both locally and now in Denton, Texas – that WKU defensive coordinator Clint Bowen has resigned from his post at Western Kentucky and will accept the defensive coordinator job at North Texas.

UNT recently hired former Iowa State coach Dan McCarney to replace the fired Todd Dodge – so the move might make some sense based on the fact that UNT will likely be able to offer Bowen more money, and McCarney has some Big 12 ties along with Bowen, a former defensive coordinator at Kansas.

It should be noted that WKU has not confirmed anything officially or otherwise on Bowen’s reported resignation, and I have not received enough knockout evidence from any trusted sources to call this case closed as of right now.

But in any event, there’s what we know.

I’ll obviously have more on this situation when more becomes available.

Nick I have also heard that coach Pratt and Wells are also resigning on the staff. Anything on this? On flavarsity web site I am reading that coach bowen is gone. Funny thing is same position in the same confrence. Did they get along with coach taggart? http://wku.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1162889 web site that bowen is gone.

Heard Matt is gone it now leaves Doughty and Jakes as the only QBs on roster. Read it on WKU hearld. Matt knew coaches are probably leaning towards Doughty as there future QB. He could not beat out Jakes this year and sees Doughty turning the corner as a starter. Heard Doughty played very well on scout. Won the offensive scout player of the year. Maybe they wil bring in another JUCO?

Sorry I couldn’t respond sooner – I was out traveling.

Pelesasa has in fact decided to transfer. Our pals at IHS.com have one football verbal from a quarterback this season, Dyron Speight from Bradenton, Fla. to compete with Doughty and Jakes.

In addition, there is no truth (as of today anyway) that any other coaches have left the program – outside of Clint Bowen.
