Per WKU:

After helping WKU to a two-game sweep through the state of Florida over the weekend, WKU senior Sergio Kerusch was rewarded by being named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week.

The award is Kerusch’s first of the season and fourth of his career. He joins fellow senior Juan Pattillo as Hilltoppers to be honored with the conference’s weekly accolades. Pattillo was the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week after the first and third weeks of the season.

Kerusch led WKU to wins at FIU and Florida Atlantic by averaging 19.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest. The Sun Belt Conference Preseason Player of the Year shot an incredible .692 from the field (18-for-26) in the two victories and added his sixth double-double of the season in the Florida Atlantic game.

On Thursday against FIU, Kerusch poured in 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting in a three-point WKU win. He followed that up with 17 points and 11 rebounds against Florida Atlantic to spearhead WKU’s efforts in handing the Owls their first Sun Belt Conference loss of the season. He connected on eight of 12 field goal attempts against Florida Atlantic and also had a block and a steal.

Five of his 15 rebounds in the two games came on the offensive end.

On the season, Kerusch is leading the Hilltoppers in scoring at 15.9 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding with an average of 7.7 per contest. The scoring total ranks him third in the Sun Belt Conference, and his rebounding average is good for fifth.

In conference games, the Memphis, Tenn., native is tied for first in the league with a 20.3 point per game scoring average.

WKU begins a five-game homestand Thursday night when it hosts South Alabama. With the wins in Florida, the Hilltoppers have put together a four-game winning streak and have clawed back to .500 in the conference at 4-4. After playing the Jaguars on Thursday night, WKU closes out the week with an afternoon tilt against ULM.
