The 2011 Western Kentucky football schedule has been finalized, and will feature seven official Hilltopper home games, with one taking place in Nashville.
WKU opens the 2011 season Thursday, Sept. 1 against Kentucky at LP Field in Nashville as part of the schools’ four-year pact that was made prior to the 2010 season.
It will be the third matchup between the Hilltoppers and Wildcats, and the first time that WKU will call itself the home team.
The two teams will play again in Lexington in 2012, and back in Nashville during the 2013 season.
After the UK game, the Hilltoppers will host Navy on Sept. 10, the Midshipmen’s first visit to Houchens-Smith Stadium. The game will be the second meeting between the two schools, as WKU visited Navy in 2009.
On Sept. 17, WKU will play host to Football Championship Subdivision opponent Indiana State during “Parents and Family Weekend” before having a bye week on Sept. 24.
The Hilltoppers’ lone remaining nonconference game will take place in Baton Rogue, La., against LSU on Nov. 12. It will be the first meeting between the two schools.
Sun Belt Conference play begins Oct. 1, with WKU hosting Arkansas State. From there, the Hilltoppers travel to Middle Tennessee on Oct. 6 for a Thursday night ESPNU contest in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
WKU then travels to Florida Atlantic on Oct. 15, will host homecoming on Oct. 22 against Louisiana-Lafayette and will close out the month at Louisiana-Monroe on Oct. 29.
The Hilltoppers then host Florida International on Nov. 5 before traveling to face LSU. WKU closes out the regular season with a visit to North Texas on Nov. 19 and a home date with Troy on Nov. 26.
Game times, special events and further television details will be released at a later date.
Season ticket packages begin at $36 and are available through the WKU ticket office by phone at 800-524-4733. The season ticket packages include the six home games slated to be played in Bowling Green and will not include WKU’s contest with Kentucky. Tickets for that contest will range from $28 to $63 and are available now through the WKU ticket office.
The Hilltoppers will begin spring practice March 21, with the annual Red-White Spring Game taking place at 4 p.m. on April 16 at Houchens-Smith Stadium.
