The 2011 PNC/KHSAA Boys’ Sweet Sixteen kicked off today in Lexington, and the first two games featured a pair of Western Kentucky signees.
George Rogers Clark’s Vinny Zollo (WKU signee) put in 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks as GRC advanced.
Warren Central’s George Fant (WKU signee) has 21 points and 12 rebounds in a narrow loss to No. 1 Eastern.
WKU coach Ken McDonald was reportedly on hand, which is in no way surprising.
The Hilltoppers have a few people up in Lexington they’re keeping tabs on at the moment – most likely Christian County point guard Anthony Hickey.
Hickey has an offer from WKU, and remains a top target – but the courtship of fellow point guard Cezar Guerrero seemed to move Hickey to the back burner a bit last fall.
In any event, Christian County coach Kerry Stovall told me before the prep season began that Hickey would most likely wait until the end of the basketball season to make any type of decision. And that appears to be where he’s still at.
Also, the Courier-Journal reported today that WKU offered Jeffersontown senior Tony Kimbro – the 6-5 off-guard averaged 17 points per game for J’Town.
