WKU football: WR Willie McNeal lost for the season with knee injury

30 03 2011

Western Kentucky coach Willie Taggart told reporters today that sophomore receiver Willie McNeal has been lost for the 2011 season with a knee injury suffered at practice this week.

Taggart didn’t have any specifics on the nature of the injury, just that it was bad enough to cost McNeal his 2011 season.

Technically McNeal was a true freshman last season – as he grayshirted during his first year on campus. So he should be eligible for a redshirt season.

WKU is already without its top receiver this spring as junior Marcus Vasquez is still recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered a season ago.

The Hilltoppers’ thin receiving corps should get a boost this fall, though, as Taggart and company inked a pair of Rivals.com three-star wideouts in Boe Brand (6-0, 155) and Cameron Brown (6-2, 195).

I’ll have more in Thursday’s Daily News.
