WKU-Vanderbilt football not a done deal

8 04 2011

The Tennessean reported earlier this week that Vanderbilt vice chancellor of athletics David Williams said that the Commodores have ‘penciled in’ WKU for a home and home football series — possibly in 2012 and 2015.

WKU senior associate athletic director Todd Stewart told the Daily News this morning that no deal has been even close to being reached, and due to a lack of mutually beneficial dates, a series with Vanderbilt at this time likely won’t work.

WKU is still looking for an additional game in 2012 (playing at Hawaii affords a 13th game), and would like to make it a home contest if possible. In nonconference play, the Hilltoppers will host Austin Peay, travel to Kentucky, play at Alabama and at Hawaii as of now in 2012.

Isn’t USA FCS in 2012? Might as well try to get them on the home schedule. By 2013 they’re supposed to be FBS then and on our conference schedule thereafter anyway. Maybe with WKU playing FCS APSU, we can only play 1 FCS a season? I can’t remember if that’s the rule.

I’d like to see UAB, So. Miss, Tulane, Memphis, Ohio, Ball State or a school somewhat close to fill in the gap.
