Obviously this has been reported already – but here’s the school’s release:
WKU head men’s basketball coach Ken McDonald announced Sunday the signing of guard Kevin Kaspar to a National Letter of Intent, giving the Hilltoppers six signees in the Class of 2011.
Prior to the addition of Kaspar, WKU’s recruiting class for 2011 had already been recognized as one of the best in the country. After the early signing period in November, ESPN listed WKU’s class as being “on the cusp” of its ranking of the nation’s top 25 classes, and various other national outlets had recognized WKU’s recruiting efforts for the Class of 2011.
In addition to Kaspar (G, 6-1, 175, Henderson, Nev.), WKU has already inked George Fant (F, 6-6, 220, Bowling Green, Ky.), Derrick Gordon (G, 6-3, 185, Plainfield, N.J.), Deng Leek (C, 6-11, 230, Greensboro, N.C.), Nigel Snipes (F, 6-5, 185, Marietta, Ga.) and Vinny Zollo (F, 6-8, 230, Winchester, Ky.) in the Class of 2011.
Gordon holds a four-star ranking from scouting service Rivals.com, and he is listed as the 105th-best high school senior in the nation. Fant joins Gordon in the prestigious Rivals150 for the Class of 2011, checking in as number 150. Fant, Leek, Snipes and Zollo are all rated as three-star recruits by Rivals. Gordon also garnered recognition as MaxPreps’ 65th-best player in its list of the top 100 high school seniors in the Class of 2011.
Kaspar, a 6-1 guard and member of the Turkish national team, averaged seven points and three assists per game as a senior at Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev., in 2010-11 and shot 45 percent from three-point range. The Pilots fell just short of their third-straight national championship, when they lost in the quarterfinals of the ESPN Rise National High School Invitational. Findlay Prep finished the 2010-11 season with a 28-4 overall record.
The ESPN.com scouting service gives Kaspar a grade of “88” and says he is a “tough and skilled combination guard” who can “knock down open shots with three point range and get the ball to teammates with his good feel for the game and basketball IQ.” He is also described as someone who “plays with passion and does something to help his team on a consistent basis.”
Kaspar, a two-star recruit on Rivals.com, is a former AAU teammate of fellow incoming Hilltopper Gordon.
McDonald on Kaspar:
“We are very excited to add Kevin to our class for next season. He brings quite a bit to the table, and he has a wealth of international playing experience. He has great character, and he’s excited to be a Hilltopper.”
The regular signing period for the Class of 2011 began on April 13 and lasts until May 18.
