Western Kentucky senior associate athletic director Todd Stewart told the Daily News today that freshman guard Brandon Peters remains academically ineligible, and will leave the WKU basketball program.
Peters was ruled ineligible yet again after the spring semester, after failing to meet eligibility requirements following the fall semester.
Peters – a shooting guard from Houston Yates – played in just 12 games at WKU.
A statement from Ken McDonald on the matter:
“Brandon worked extremely hard last semester and focused on his academics after being ruled ineligible, but came up short in meeting the requirements to return to the court next season. To his credit, he did not give up or leave school once it was determined he had to sit out the second half of last season. We are very proud of Brandon for that. Ultimately, this will allow him to continue his academic and basketball careers closer to his home and family, including his newborn son. We wish Brandon and his family all of the best in the future.”
Peters becomes the 11th WKU basketball player to leave the program before exhausting on-court eligibility since 2008-09.
