Western Kentucky athletic director Ross Bjork told the Daily News today that the school is still awaiting word on the academic qualifying clearance for 2011-12 signee Deng Leek.
Leek – a 6-11 Sudanese center from Veritas Academy in Greensboro, N.C. – signed with WKU during the regular signing period last fall. But has yet to receive the Ok on his eligibility academically to compete.
Bjork said that five of the seven players WKU has signed for next season will be arriving on campus in the coming weeks – save for Leek, and Turkish point guard Kevin Kaspar (who is currently visiting family in Turkey).
Bjork added that the school hopes to have a final word on Leek’s status by the end of June.
