WKU football nabs second commit for 2012

24 07 2011

Hello all, good to be back from vacation – a bit of Western Kentucky football news to share.

Coral Reef (Fla.) High School defensive end Julian Leslie confirmed to the Daily News this afternoon that he has indeed given coach Willie Taggart at the WKU football program a verbal commitment for the 2012 season.

InsideHilltopperSports.com originially reported the committment this afternoon.

With Leslie’s pledge, Taggart and company now have two verbals for 2012 – as Ryle running back Travis Elliott verballed to WKU earlier this spring.

Leslie is rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com.

The 6-4, 215-pound Leslie (who has also played tight end and even punted while in high school) had other offers from Kentucky, Florida Atlantic, North Carolina Central, Savannah State, Tulane and Western Michigan – according to Rivals.com.

Nick, I read that Kentucky gave Leslie a “wait and see offer” and were considering him for outside linebacker. At 6-4, 215 he seems a little bit small to play defensive end for us. What position(s) do you see him filling?

Rob,

Honestly, I haven’t a clue. WKU signed a good deal of outside backers and defensive ends over the past few seasons. I think a lot of it will depend on how quickly he can add on weight without losing speed/agility. He’s got good height, which coaches love in defensive ends. My gut says he’d end up there – but who knows. He also dabbles at tight end in high school, though I’d be surprised to see him there due to the huge number of tight ends WKU currently has on its roster.

this is totally unrelated to the above story, but here we go anyway…

Any idea for Myers is going to hire as the other assistant baseball coach?
